What we feed our puppies

Once your puppy has received its second set of shots it is extremely important to properly socialize him or her. Take your puppy with you as often as possible where ever people gather such as Home Depot, shopping areas, and to your friends' homes. Encourage your dog to approach strangers and to accept beign petted by as many people as possible. If there is any shyness, ask others to offer a treat which you will carry with you at all times. Never allow your dog to bark at approaching dogs or people

If puppy classes are available, that is a great way to ensure your puppy is comfortable with other dogs of all sizes. However, the classes should separate the puppies by size and temperament during the free play period and introduce the smaller dogs to the other larger dogs gradually and always under close supervision. As an alternative you may choose to invite other dogs into your home or yard for your Havanese to play with. It's important that your puppy have a chance to get to know other dogs while off lead since the puppy may feel somewhat threatened when constrained on a lead, especially when meeting larger or more aggressive dogs.
