- How to keep your puppy dog safe
- Never let your dog off lead except in a completely closed in familiar area. Environments like your neighbors garage can have hazardous items.
- Have a fenced in area for your dog with a self closing gate and a lock.
- Never assume that your dog will stay with you off lead. You never know when she will see a squirrel
or become frightened and run.
- Check on a regular basis that the self closing gate is working properly.
- Street proof your dog. Expose him (while on lead) to the noise of cars and trucks and if he shows a little apprehension -
good. He should respect the cars and trucks and want to avoid the street.
- Always have your vet check that your dog's microchip is still working.
- Always have identification on your dog.
- Teach your dog the "SIT" AND "STAY" command and teach him to sit, stay before he is allowed to go through a door. This is especially
important with the front door. This could help prevent your dog from running out onto the street when you have opened the door
for some other reason.
- Teach your dog the "STAY" command with a hand signal - arm up, hand flat facing the dog. If you are on the opposite side of the street you don't want your dog to run to you.
- Teach your dog the "COME" command. If you teach your dog nothing else this command is the most important and should
be trained on a daily basis..
- If your dog should become lost call your breeder right away. We are usually part of a large network on-line and can get
people helping you right away.
